Every parent knows that rare kid-free moments are golden, and our 48 hours in San
Sebastián felt like pure luxury. With no schedules to juggle, we dove headfirst into
this foodie paradise, indulging in the city’s famed pintxos, breathtaking views, and a
touch of pampering.

The Perfect Stay at Hotel Catalonia Donosti
We arrived on the first flight of the day—so early, in fact, that our room wasn’t quite
ready yet. No problem! The Hotel Catalonia Donosti turned out to be the perfect
base for our short getaway. Located just a stone’s throw from all the action, the
hotel’s rooftop pool and bar offered incredible views of the city, which we enjoyed
later with a cocktail in hand.
While waiting for check-in, we treated ourselves to a couples’ massage at the hotel’s
spa. It was the perfect way to unwind and set the tone for the weekend. By the time
we’d relaxed in the spa’s serene atmosphere, we were ready for the room—and it
didn’t disappoint.
Breakfast the next morning was a feast, with everything from fresh pastries to local
specialties. And did I mention the sparkling wine? Nothing says “vacation mode” like
starting your day with bubbles.

Pintxos, Pintxos, and More Pintxos
If San Sebastián is known for one thing, it’s food, and we made it our mission to try
pintxos at every opportunity. These bite-sized works of art, served atop crusty bread
or skewered with a toothpick, are scattered across the city’s lively bars. Each one
was better than the last, and hopping from spot to spot felt like an adventure in itself.
Bar Néstor was a standout. Famous for its simple yet perfect dishes like the
legendary tomato salad and melt-in-your-mouth steak, this tiny, unassuming spot
lives up to the hype. Pro tip: get there early if you want to snag a seat!

Two Beaches and Stunning Views
San Sebastián is blessed with not one but two gorgeous beaches—La Concha and
Zurriola—and both deserve a visit. La Concha’s calm waters and sweeping crescent
shape make it ideal for a leisurely stroll or lounging in the sun, while Zurriola has a
wilder vibe, popular with surfers and those seeking a more adventurous atmosphere.
For a dose of culture and a stunning panorama, we climbed up to Urgulleko
Polborina, the historic fortress overlooking the city. The hike wasn’t too strenuous,
and the views from the top were absolutely worth it—a perfect romantic moment to
soak in San Sebastián’s beauty together.

Flying In and Out
San Sebastián is easily accessible via Biarritz or Bilbao airports. We flew into Biarritz
and out of Bilbao, but in hindsight, it’s much simpler to fly in and out of Bilbao. The
bus from Bilbao to San Sebastián is fast, cheap, and very convenient—perfect for a
quick weekend getaway without any hassle.
Why San Sebastián is the Ultimate Couples’ Getaway
In just 48 hours, San Sebastián gave us everything we needed: incredible food,
breathtaking scenery, and moments of pure relaxation. From pintxos and sparkling
wine breakfasts to sunset views from a rooftop pool, the city has a way of making
every moment feel special.
If you’re looking for a couples’ escape where you can reconnect, indulge, and
breathe in some ocean air, San Sebastián is the place to be. Whether you arrive via
Biarritz or Bilbao, you’ll be planning your next visit before you’ve even left.
