August in Puglia is pure magic. Over ten days, we stayed in three incredible places,

each offering a unique experience of this sun-drenched region. From cycling through

fig groves to savoring homemade treats, and swimming in a pool overlooking Trulli

sunsets, our trip was everything a Puglian getaway should be.

Stop 1: Furnirussi Tenuta – A Fig-Lovers’ Paradise

We started our journey at Furnirussi Tenuta, a luxury retreat nestled in the Salento

countryside. The huge pool was a dream for lazy summer afternoons, and the

onsite restaurant treated us to exquisite local cuisine. The staff couldn’t have been

more welcoming, making our stay truly special.

The highlight? Cycling around the fig grove on the property, a serene and

immersive way to connect with the landscape.

Nearby, we explored Otranto, a must-visit coastal gem with its ancient castle,

turquoise waters, and lively streets. Strolling along the seafront and enjoying fresh

seafood was the perfect way to soak in its charm.

Stop 2: Masseria San Martino – Family Warmth and Ferragosto Feasts

Next, we moved to Masseria San Martino, a family-run haven where hospitality

takes center stage. Every morning, Teressa herself prepared the most delicious

homemade baked goods for breakfast—a highlight we looked forward to daily.

Don’t miss their lovely olive oil, be bought some to take home and still savour it now.

Our stay coincided with Ferragosto, a local summer holiday, and we were lucky

enough to join in on the festivities with a leisurely poolside lunch featuring

traditional dishes.

The Masseria’s location was perfect for day trips:

 Egnazia Waterpark: A hit for cooling off and family fun.

 Alberobello: The iconic Trulli town, where we wandered through its fairy-tale

streets.

 Ostuni: The "White City," dazzling under the August sun.

 Polignano a Mare: Famous for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

 Cisternino: Our favorite, with its charming alleys, warm atmosphere, and

some of the best local food we tasted.

Stop 3: Trulli Mest’Andrea – A Fairytale Finish

For our final stop, we stayed in a real-life Trulli at an Airbnb called Trulli

Mest’Andrea. This was the ultimate Puglian experience—stepping into these

unique, historic homes felt like living in a dream.

The property came with a spectacular 25m pool, perfect for cooling off during the

heat of the day, and every evening, we watched the sunset paint the landscape with

golden hues. It was the ideal spot to unwind and reflect on the journey.

Why Puglia in August is Worth It

Puglia in August is buzzing with life, from the warmth of its people to the vibrant

celebrations of Ferragosto. Each of our stays offered a different perspective on this

enchanting region—luxury at Furnirussi Tenuta, family warmth at Masseria San

Martino, and authentic charm at Trulli Mest’Andrea.

Whether you’re cycling through fig groves, diving into shimmering pools, or

wandering through ancient towns, Puglia is a feast for the senses. Ten days flew by,

but the memories we made will last a lifetime. If you’re dreaming of Italy, Puglia in

summer should be at the top of your list
